New Studio ~ New Body of Work

While living in Ventura I was really struggling to make ends meet.

            I found myself in a constant state of fear and anxiety.

            And then a dear sweet soul made me an offer I could not refuse and I will be eternally grateful to him.

            So . . . I have moved again ~ returning to the San Fernando Valley near the neighborhood where I grew up.

            All these moves are making me feel like a gypsy.

Love my new studio ~ it really embraces me.

I’ve decided to create a new body of work ~ returning to florals.

            Here is my most recent, painted in Ventura before the move to the SFV.

Here is Chloe my assistant helping with the colour palette selection.

And today’s warm up and exercise ~ Rose 1. I decided to use a delicate palette of Genuine Rose Madder, Aureolin and Cobalt Blue. I felt the shading was getting away from me and in places it was getting a bit muddy.

I’m looking forward to staying here and really growing some roots and getting some stability. Expressing artistically as a mature artist where just maybe you the viewer can relate to the finished piece as restful and nurturing. Lets see.

I'm in the process of a move again. Starting to feel like a bit of a gypsy. Like I'm liking the moves. 

This was a flower from my sons back yard. The grandkids love to see paintings I've done from things they are familiar with and know.

I enjoyed this piece so much I may do it again. I'm definitely going to do a little series of florals.

Fear & Faith

Has been accepted in the Buena Ventura Gallery 27th annual open competition.

Inspired by a FaceBook post by Cheryl Graham. I set about expressing my vision of this (Fear & Faith). And once again, I visited a cemetery finding the inspiration for Fear from a headstone. As was once found in my painting Angel of Grief.

The image of Faith & Light was another story. In so many meditations we envision the light coming in through our crown chakra - washing and bathing us in a white light. Exploring how I might express this I was also very much experiencing the loss of my father-in-law of 20 years, Henry Beyer. Also in the same time frame we as a nation experienced the gruesome loss of 20 children and six adults in a massacre.

Wanting to express a faith as we move through this huge loss as a nation as well as our own private losses we encounter in a lifetime I incorporated it in the painting of Light/Faith as love. Spirit Orbs of love flowing into light that they see and know.

And then finally mounting both pieces into a 3/D piece.
